Robert E. Kress is the chief operating officer (COO) of Accenture’s high-performance IT organization, which supports and advances the business goals of a $22 billion company with more than 215,000 employees in 52 different countries. Reporting directly to Accenture’s chief information officer, Bob has overall responsibility for running IT like a business. He manages the organization’s global IT operation with its $700 million annual budget – his roles including the direct management of IT governance, strategy, planning, risk management, supplier and contract management, audits and IT policy, as well as communications, business performance, finance, human resources (HR), deployable resources and organizational development.
Bob has extensive experience in IT planning, governance, technology operations, application development, product management, service planning and program management. Before joining the IT operation, Bob was an Accenture consultant. In that role, he developed and delivered large and complex IT transformation projects and business solutions that maximized return on investment for clients in the healthcare, government and consumer products sectors.
Bob’s first book, IT Governance to Drive High Performance: Lessons from Accenture, was published in 2010.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa. He resides in the Chicago area with his wife and children. He enjoys gardening and attending sporting events with his family.
